How to Search the Upshur County Court Docket
Know the case type before you type a name. Felonies and major civil suits sit with the 115th District Court and its District Clerk. County Court and probate records route to the County Clerk instead. Four Justice of the Peace courts handle Class C misdemeanors, small claims, evictions, magistrate work, and justice dockets. Ordinance and citation matters stay with the city municipal courts. Anything federal lives in a wholly separate system.
Before a docket search, gather four things. You want the court name and the cause number. Grab the exact party name, plus a rough filing or hearing date. The cause number is simply the court's own identifier for the case. Formats vary. So enter it exactly as it appears on your notice rather than guessing at a pattern.
- Classify the case as district, County Court, probate, JP, municipal, specialty, appellate, or federal.
- Use the official portal or calendar tied to that court and record date.
- Search by cause number when known, or use a narrow name and date range.
- Verify the court, county, case type, status, and setting on the result.
- Contact the proper clerk for an absent record, public document, or certified copy.
Two Upshur County Docket Clerks
Upshur County records live with two different clerks, and picking the right one saves time. The District Clerk holds the 115th District Court files: civil, family, tax, Attorney General, DFPS, adoption, juvenile, and felony criminal cases. The County Clerk, Terri Ross, keeps County Court and probate records. That office also holds everything else filed with it. Searching online does not change who owns the record. The paper and the index still answer to the clerk who took them in.
| If the case is in | Start with | Published phone |
|---|---|---|
| 115th District Court | Upshur County District Clerk | 903-843-5031 |
| County Court or probate | Upshur County Clerk | 903-843-4015 |
| Justice Court | The correct JP precinct clerk | Use that precinct's official page |
| Municipal Court | The city court clerk | Use that city's official page |
Who holds the District Clerk seat is an open question. A current county page names Melissa Chevalier, while a May 2025 OCA report names Nicole Hernandez. Call the office and confirm before you rely on either name.
What a Court Docket Shows
Think of a court docket as the case's timeline. It tracks when a filing arrived, when a hearing was set, what order the judge signed, and how the matter closed out. It rarely holds everything. Often a one-line entry just points you toward the petition, indictment, motion, exhibit, order, or judgment sitting in the clerk's file.
| Cause number | The court's identifier for the case. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The public party or entity names in the heading. |
| Case type and status | The category and current state of the matter. |
| Register entries | Filed pleadings, motions, notices, orders, and other recorded events. |
| Hearing settings | Date, time, courtroom, judge, setting type, and reset status when shown. |
| Disposition | The way a matter or charge ended as recorded by the court. |
| Access status | Whether a document is public, redacted, restricted, sealed, or not imaged online. |
Read the whole sequence rather than a single line. A filed claim is not a ruling. A hearing date on the docket is only a schedule, never a result.
Upshur County Docket Portal Cutover
The County Clerk splits its judicial records at a hard date line. Records through February 28, 2025 stay on the legacy link. Anything from March 1, 2025 forward lives in the Tyler UCMS Public Access Portal. That boundary matters more than almost any other Upshur County search detail. Check it first.
Inside Tyler UCMS you get Smart Search and Search Hearings. The portal needs JavaScript and cookies. It works best in a current browser, and it can log you out without warning. Remember what it is: the County Clerk's tool. It does not swallow every District Clerk, JP, city, federal, or restricted record into one place. The separate legacy document index hunts recorded instruments by grantor, grantee, date, instrument number, book, volume, page, and type. That index serves deed research, not a court case docket.
The official Tyler UCMS landing page shows the portal's layout. It also marks its two search entry points.

Two search paths appear on the portal itself, and the County Clerk page gives the Upshur County date boundary for each one.
Which Courts Keep Dockets
Every court level keeps its own docket and its own custodian. The 115th District Court serves Upshur and Marion Counties. So check the county on anything you pull. Upshur has a constitutional County Court but no County Court at Law. The lower courts never share a docket with the District Court. A search there will not reach them.
| Court | Docket covers | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| 115th District Court | Felony, major civil, family, juvenile, tax, and related matters | District Clerk and court calendar |
| Constitutional County Court | Probate and matters within its statutory authority | County Clerk |
| Four Justice Courts | Class C, small claims, justice, eviction, and magistrate work | Relevant JP office |
| Municipal Courts | City ordinance and Class C citation cases | Named city court |
| Child Protection Court No. 2 | Specialty child-protection calendar | Texas Courts Online posting list |
Appeals from Upshur County trial courts go to the Twelfth Court of Appeals in Tyler. Federal cases in the Tyler Division run through PACER and CM/ECF, not any county portal.
Upshur County Docket Search Errors
An empty result does not mean an empty court. In Upshur County it usually means one of a few fixable problems: the wrong clerk, the wrong side of the March 2025 boundary, flipped name order, a session that expired, a fresh citation that has not posted, or a restricted file. Tyler UCMS posts its own warnings about JavaScript, cookies, browsers, sessions, and required fields. Clear those hurdles before you change the search itself.
No result: Recheck the court and date range, reduce the search to a known cause number or narrow name, then call the correct clerk.
Skip the private filters when a broad lookup frustrates you. Smart Search exposes fields for phone, FBI, sheriff, booking, warrant, and judgment data, but you do not need them, and most public searches should not touch them. Start with a cause number or a name. If the case never shows in Tyler UCMS, take it to the right local clerk or try re:SearchTX, keeping its coverage limits in mind.
Finding Court Dates and Settings
Court dates in Upshur County come from several places, not one. The 115th District Court page links calendar PDFs, including a revised 2025 calendar. County Clerk hearings for current covered records appear in Tyler UCMS. The Child Protection Court posts its own Upshur County date list. JP and municipal schedules come straight from those offices. No single calendar covers every court.
Write down the details when you find a setting: court, county, date, time, room, judge, hearing type, cause number, and status. "Set" means it is scheduled. "Reset" or "continued" means it moved. "Canceled" applies to that one event, not always the whole case. For the full confirmation sequence, see the Upshur County court calendar page.
What if a PDF and the portal disagree? Keep the cause number and call the court. The District Court office answers at 903-843-2836. A filed notice or direct word from the clerk beats any stale calendar copy.
Upshur County Docket Buildings Differ
Where you go depends on which office you need. The historic courthouse sits at 100 West Tyler Street in Gilmer. District Court and the District Clerk now operate from the Justice Center at 405 North Titus Street. The County Clerk keeps a third spot, 150 East Jefferson Street. Its mail goes to PO Box 730. Three offices, three addresses.
Hours differ just as much. The District Clerk opens Monday through Thursday at 8:00 a.m. It closes at 4:30 p.m. and cuts Friday off at 2:00 p.m. The County Clerk also starts at 8:00 a.m. It shuts down for a noon to 1:00 p.m. lunch, and it ends Friday at 1:00 p.m. District Court runs 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every weekday. Confirm hours with the office you plan to visit before driving over.
The Upshur County home page displays the county's official web identity.

Start with the county page for office links. For anything docket-specific, though, the court and clerk pages give the better route.
Public Access to Dockets
Judicial records in Texas do not fall under the Texas Public Information Act. Executive-agency records do. Instead, Rule 12 and the Texas judicial policy generally let the public inspect and copy qualifying judicial records during business hours. Stated exclusions still apply. Case records also answer to court rules, statutes, common law, and clerk procedures. The docket you want may be open, but not every piece of it is.
Key access rules: Rule 12 governs qualifying judicial records; Government Code Chapter 552 distinguishes judiciary access; Rule 76a addresses covered civil sealing; Rule 21c protects sensitive data; Family Code Chapter 58 limits juvenile-record access.
An index can be public while a document stays sealed, restricted, or redacted. That is normal. Juvenile, adoption, DFPS, child-protection, presentence, victim, minor, address, financial, and identifier details may all carry limits. Never try to get around one. Jot down the cause number and ask the clerk which parts are public. What if a Rule 12 request is denied? The policy allows an appeal to the OCA Administrative Director within 30 days for a qualifying judicial record.
Upshur County Docket Portal Choices
Smart Search and Search Hearings answer different questions. Smart Search takes a record number or a name typed Last, First Middle Suffix. Its advanced filters cover location, type, cases, judgments, warrants, party, business, status, file date, judicial officer, and more. Start narrow. Business lookups need the Business Name search type.
Search Hearings is all about the calendar. The form asks for a location, hearing type, search type, name criteria, judicial officer, and courtroom. A date range is required too. The menus are dynamic, so pick only values that appear live. Last and first names seem required; middle name and Sounds Like are optional.
| Tool | Best starting input | Primary use |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Search | Record number or formatted name | Find a covered case, judgment, or public index result |
| Search Hearings | Location, setting filters, name, and date range | Find a covered hearing |
| re:SearchTX | Case or party data | Statewide electronic search layer with coverage limits |
The Clerk and Docket Records
For a 115th District Court docket, a filed pleading, or a certified judgment, the District Clerk is the first stop. The county page lists the office at 405 North Titus Street, Gilmer, Texas 75644. The phone is 903-843-5031. The fax is 903-843-3540. When you call, give the court, cause number, party name, document title, and date if you know them. Details speed everything up.

Copies cost money. The District Clerk's fee sheet effective January 1, 2022 lists $1 per page and $8 per certified document. Confirm the current charge before you order. Say whether you want inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy. The clerk needs to know which one.
The District Clerk page shows the office's contact details and what it holds.

The official page lists the office's custody categories and its current public contact route.
Upshur County Docket Versus Case File
A docket entry is just a pointer in the case history. The case file holds the actual paper behind it. That gap matters when a docket line says "motion," "order," or "judgment." The entry does not show what is inside. Request the specific public document by name instead of asking for every record in the case.
- Pleading
- A filing that states a claim, charge, defense, or response.
- Motion
- A request asking the court to make an order.
- Order
- A judge's ruling or direction.
- Judgment
- An adjudicative decision that may include relief, costs, or a sentence.
- Certified copy
- A copy carrying the clerk's certification.
- Restricted or redacted
- A limit on access or removal of protected details.
For civil and criminal district records, ask the District Clerk. For County Court or probate, ask the County Clerk. A recorded deed index, sheriff report, jail sheet, and court judgment are different files with different custodians.
Court Dockets by City in Upshur County
Upshur County's five city pages track its top incorporated places from 2020 Census figures. Those places are Gladewater, Gilmer, Big Sandy, Ore City, and East Mountain. Gladewater crosses county lines. Yet its municipal court still matters here because part of the city lies in Upshur County. Each city runs its own ordinance and Class C citation docket. No countywide municipal system holds them.
Gladewater Court Docket
Municipal citations, court dates, payment routes, and local access at the Gladewater Municipal Court.
Gilmer Court Docket
Municipal case forms and settings for the Upshur County seat.
Big Sandy Court Docket
City citations, pleas, trial settings, deferred disposition, and defensive-driving routes.
Ore City Court Docket
Weekly court sessions, citation cases, payment plans, and Safe Harbor information.
East Mountain Court Docket
Municipal citation timing, pleas, settings, and failure-to-appear information.
Check a city citation with that city's municipal clerk. It may never show up in the District Clerk or County Clerk portal.
Upshur County Docket at 115th Court
The 115th District Court serves as the main general-jurisdiction trial court for Upshur County. It also covers Marion County. Its Upshur office sits in the Justice Center at 405 North Titus Street. The court office answers at 903-843-2836. The judge's office does not hold the records. The District Clerk is the custodian.
Use this route for a felony, major civil, family, juvenile, tax, adoption, DFPS, or related district case. Turn to the court page for calendar links. Go to the clerk for docket records or copies. Keeping that line straight stops a simple scheduling question from turning into an incomplete records request.
The official District Court page shows the court's current contact information.

The page confirms the shared district and Upshur County contact, while the docket itself stays with the clerk.
Upshur County Court Records at County Clerk
Call this office before you hunt Upshur County court records. The County Clerk is the other one worth that call. Terri Ross runs it from 150 East Jefferson Street in Gilmer. Mail goes to PO Box 730. The published phone number is 903-843-4015. This office holds County Court files and probate records. It will not carry the full docket of the 115th District Court. Its copy fees also stand apart from the District Clerk's dated schedule, so keep the two straight.
The County Clerk's official fee list sets plain copies at $1 per page. A certified copy runs $5 plus $1 per page. An authenticated copy costs $7 plus $1 per page. Confirm the current price and the right office before you mail anything, since these figures can change.
The County Clerk page shows the office's contact details, its judicial routes, and what records it makes available to the public.

The page lays out both the current and the legacy judicial routes for Upshur County records. When coverage or copy needs are unclear, calling the clerk directly settles it fastest.
